POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM APPLIED MATHEMATICS

THE PROGRAM

The Graduate Program of Studies “Applied Mathematics” was founded in 2015 and it has been running continuously since then and it is operated by the following Departments of DUTh:

  • The Department of Civil Engineering
  • The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • The Department of Environmental Engineering

The aim of the program

The Graduate Program of studies “Applied Mathematics” is included in the strategic planning of the DUTh and aims:

In further promoting the knowledge and application of Mathematics in Science and Technology

In research development

In meeting the educational, research, social, cultural, development needs of the country

n the high-level specialization of graduates in both theoretical and applied aspects of Mathematical and Technological sciences, focusing in special application domains of Positive, Technological and Economic sciences.

In offering effective solutions of scientific and technological problems.

In the increase of productivity and in the adequate coverage of the growing needs of the Public and Private sectors of Greece and European Union.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Graduates or diploma holders of all University Departments and Schools and Polytechnics of a relevant subject, holders of a 5-year or 4-year study degree at a local University or recognized as equivalent to a foreign one are accepted.

LANGUAGE OF TEACHING AND MASTER THESIS

Courses are taught in the Greek language, but it is possible to fully or partially structure the studies in the English language, when the number of foreign language postgraduate students per course exceeds five (5). The writing language of the Master’s Thesis is Greek and in special cases English.

DURATION OF STUDY AND CREDIT UNITS

Minimum duration of studies 18 months (3 academic semesters) including the preparation of a diploma thesis.

The student has to successfully attend 8 taught courses (4 Mandatory and 4 Elective ones) and then to conduct a Graduate MSc research Project. Each course is assigned 7.5 Credit Units (ECTS)

Graduate Thesis is assigned (30 ECTS)

Total 90 ECTS

Παρακολούθηση και Δυνατότητα Διδακτορικού Διπλώματος

The attendance of the courses and workshops is not mandatory and leads to the awarding of a Master’s Degree, after a successful examination in the courses and the preparation of a Master’s Thesis. After obtaining the Diploma there is the possibility of preparing a PhD in one of the collaborating departments in accordance with the provisions of the current legislation.

      CANDIDATES

      Procedure for Selecting Entrants and Accepting Their Participation

      The supporting documents listed in the Call for Expressions of Interest must be submitted within the deadline, via e-mail, as a pdf file to protocol@civil.duth.gr, with the subject: Application for the PMS APPLIED MATHEMATICS.

      After the submission deadline, candidates may at the discretion of the evaluation committee be invited to a personal interview, which will be taken into account in the final selection. The selection of students is made as described in the Internal Operating Regulations of the Program.

      Candidates will be invited for a personal interview via TELEDISCUSSION (relevant link will be sent)
